Meet the newest members of the Koontz household ...Birdie the 7-week-old Labrador Retriever and Chloe the 9-week-old tabby cat!
Chloe is our sweet little long-awaited female orange tabby kitten from the Humane Society. We were so attached to our last female orange tabby, Princess, who was truly the neighborhood kitty. When we decided it was time to get another kitten we started hunting for another female orange tabby cat. Come to find out, female orange tabbys are very rare. Who knew? It took almost two months for the humane society to get a healthy female orange tabby in. On August 16 the Humane Society called to tell me "your order is in for a kitty and you have 30 minutes to come get her or we will adopt her out." We hurried over and walked in as a lady asked "Can I hold that orange cat?" but the faithful GHS volunteer said "sorry that is Brandi's kitten." And I breathed a sigh of relief.

On August 26 we added or equally long-awaited yellow labrador retriever to our family. Birdie is a 7-week old Rushcreek Labrador Retriever from Rembert, SC. Want to know where Rembert is? I would say it is between Boykin and Camden. We drove way out into the country to what can best be described as a farm for dogs. David got Birdie out of the whelping box and it was love at first sight! She is a little puppy who loves to swim and pick up birds already. Too bad for her that David doesn't hunt!
Not only did we bring back a puppy from our visit to Rembert, but Madison also brought back a broken left thumb courtesy of my car door. Luckily for Madison our neighbor put on a super cool glow-in-the-dark cast on her arm after the x-ray was taken on Monday. I told Madison that this would make her the coolest girl in the first grade since she had already had surgery and a cast and they had only been in school a week! Unfortunately for her, she is left handed so that has made work difficult but her teacher, Mr Miller, is smart--he told her to just write with her right hand!
